i will admit that recently i tired to cheat on Tom Bihn and most notably with Evergoods. the reality is Tom Bihn is just better. the designs just offer superior functionally for someone actually using a bag on a regular basis. this is a classic example. it’s admittedly not much to look at, but it just works. i use this as a fanny pack if not daily then every weekend when out with my dog. it seems to always hold just what i need and it’s never uncomfortable. for context, i am 6’3, 240lbs. finally, as with all my tom bihn bags, it’s overbuilt and made for the long haul. i have had this thing covered in mud and dust from being out hiking and all of it just wipes off. i don’t recall its weather rating, but it’s also been subjected to the rain (typical PNW rain and not torrential downpour) and i have never had any water intrusion. YMMV.
i liked this one well enough to order a second as a backup for other gear (that i want to keep clean from dog treats and other dog related stuff).
i have tried several other options and keep coming back to this one. you won’t regret this if you’re set on using it as an actual fanny pack.

Whenever I leave the house, whether for work, running errands, day trips for pleasure, or cross-country travel, I always carry a few essential items "just in case." The Tom Bihn Bummer is the perfect size, flexible carry options, and durable construction. For me, as a former Christian minister, I carry a small, thin King James Bible, my daily prayer journal, a small Field Guide note book, a collection of sermon notes on 5x8 cards, various color pens, a book light, reading glasses, and some Gospel pamphlets. And yes, it all fits nicely! I want to always be prepared for hospital visits, Bible studies, church services, and home visits. My perfect EDC spiritual companion!

This bag is the perfect size for me and I love it. I'm in the crowd that wishes it were better suited to cross body wear. Could Tom Bihn fabricate an extension strap, say 12–18 inches long, with a male connector at one end and a female connector at the other end that would match the existing hardware, and voilà!
